The Pattern

The Mughal Jali Screen is based on the jali — the carved stone or marble screens used throughout Mughal architecture to filter light, provide privacy and ornament interior and exterior surfaces simultaneously. The finest examples, found in the Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri and the Taj Mahal complex, are built on geometric grids of extraordinary precision: small perforations arranged into stars, hexagons and interlocking polygons that cast patterned shadows as light passes through them. This design reconstructs that geometric logic as a flat surface pattern, translating the delicacy of carved stone into a continuous veil-like repeat. The result is a pattern that suggests depth and transparency without requiring either — on a flat wall, it creates the impression of a screen placed in front of the surface, adding a layer of visual complexity that changes with the light in the room.

Mughal Jali Screen is one of the quieter patterns in the Carta Noor collection — a design that works through restraint rather than impact. From across the room it reads as a calm, repeating mesh that softens a space without dominating it. As you approach, the lattice details become more apparent: the precision of the geometry, the way negative space and positive form balance each other, the subtle tonal variation that gives the surface depth. It is well suited to bedrooms, where the pattern creates intimacy without heaviness; to corridors, where it adds interest to a long surface; and to boutique hospitality spaces — spas, private dining rooms, hotel suites — where refinement and calm are the brief. The palette is neutral enough to work with most colour schemes, and the geometric character pairs naturally with contemporary furniture as well as traditional pieces.

Production & Installation

Printed in the European Union on a premium non-woven substrate using water-based, low-odour inks. The surface is washable and dimensionally stable. Panels are numbered to support straightforward installation, with the repeat designed for clean alignment across drops. Panel width is 76 cm.

• Panel lengths: 96 in (244 cm), 108 in (274 cm), 120 in (305 cm) and 144 in (366 cm). We fit the shortest length that covers your wall, so a lower ceiling costs less.
• Sample: 30 in × 20 in (76 cm × 51 cm) — a full panel width, posted free worldwide.

Which finish should I choose?

• Peel and Stick — self-adhesive backing. No paste and no water. Repositionable as you hang it and removable later, so it is the usual choice for renters and first-time installers.
• Pre-Pasted — the adhesive is already on the back and is activated with water. Nothing separate to buy or mix.
• Non-Pasted — you apply wallpaper paste to the wall yourself. The traditional method, and the one most decorators prefer for a permanent installation.
