About this design
A garden kept inside an arch, the way the Mughal emperors kept theirs. The Inlaid Garden is drawn after parchin kari — the stone inlay of the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort, known in Europe as pietra dura — in which every petal and leaf is a separate piece of coloured stone set flush into polished marble.
The Aesthetic
Tall cusped Mughal arches stand side by side on a black ground, each framed by a fine gold line and a border of scrolling vines, roses and small birds. Inside every arch a single flowering plant rises from a cluster of pomegranates — irises, tulips, roses, poppies and narcissus in mirror symmetry — with hoopoes and songbirds at the crown. The colours are the stones a lapidary would choose: lapis blue, carnelian red, jade green, saffron yellow and mother-of-pearl white, set against the dark ground so each flower reads clearly from across a room. The look of inlaid stone, its sheen and its depth, belongs to the printed image; the wallpaper itself is flat. It suits rooms that come alive at night — a dining room, the wall behind a bed, a home bar, a library or a powder room.
Features
- Design: Mughal arch niches with inlay-look flowering plants, hoopoes and songbirds, after Mughal parchin kari stone inlay. A new design in that tradition, not a copy of a historical panel.
- Palette: Black, Lapis Blue, Carnelian Red, Jade Green, Saffron and Ivory, with gold-line borders.
- Finish: Matte print on a flat surface. The stone, gold and depth are printed; there is no real stone, gold leaf or raised texture.
- Style: Mughal Heritage, Botanical, Dark Floral.
Sizing and Coverage
- Panel width: 30 in (76 cm) — the same on every length.
- Panel lengths: 96 in (244 cm), 108 in (274 cm), 120 in (305 cm) and 144 in (366 cm). We fit the shortest length that covers your wall, so a lower ceiling costs less.
- Sample: 30 in × 20 in (76 cm × 51 cm) — a full panel width, posted free worldwide.
- Press Customise your wall above and enter your wall size. It chooses the panel length, counts the panels, shows where the seams will fall and previews the design at your wall’s proportions.
Which finish should I choose?
- Peel and Stick — self-adhesive backing. No paste and no water. Repositionable as you hang it and removable later, so it is the usual choice for renters and first-time installers.
- Pre-Pasted — the adhesive is already on the back and is activated with water. Nothing separate to buy or mix.
- Non-Pasted — you apply wallpaper paste to the wall yourself. The traditional method, and the one most decorators prefer for a permanent installation.
