The Riad Archway is a deliberate study in optical illusion—merging the storied interior architecture of the Moroccan courtyard house with the masterful European tradition of trompe-l’œil. It is a design engineered to dissolve the boundaries of a flat wall, suggesting a sequence of carved plaster recesses and colonnades that simply do not exist.

The Architecture of the Riad

Inspired by the medinas of Marrakech and Fes, this mural translates the delicate vocabulary of the riad into a monumental graphic form. Horseshoe arches with intricately carved plaster surrounds are rendered with precise shadow detail, capturing the warm sand and ivory tones of traditional lime render. It is an architectural intervention that introduces rhythm, weight, and light to a room, turning a blank space into a curated, layered journey.

On the Wall

From a distance, the mural creates the immediate illusion of architectural depth, expanding narrow hallways into colonnades and adding structure to large dining rooms.
