The Pattern
Riad Archway Trompe L’Œil Luxury Wallpaper is inspired by the interior architecture of the Moroccan riad — the traditional courtyard house found throughout the medinas of Marrakech, Fes and Meknes, where elaborately carved plaster arches, zellige tile dados and cedar wood screens create a sequence of layered, ornamental spaces. The trompe-l’œil technique — the use of painted illusion to suggest three-dimensional space on a flat surface — has a long history in European and Islamic decorative arts, and this design applies it to the specific vocabulary of Moroccan architecture: horseshoe arches with carved plaster surrounds, recessed niches with shadow detail, and the warm sand and ivory tones of traditional lime render. The result is a pattern that turns a flat wall into a sequence of imagined doorways and recesses, adding architectural depth to a room without any structural work.
On the Wall
Riad Archway works in spaces where the brief is to create a sense of place — a backdrop that suggests a specific architectural tradition rather than a generic decorative pattern. In hallways and entry spaces, the sequence of arches creates a strong first impression and gives a narrow space the feeling of a colonnade. In dining rooms, the recesses and frames add depth and rhythm to the wall behind a table. In boutique hospitality — restaurant interiors, hotel corridors, spa reception areas — the pattern provides a signature backdrop that photographs well and reads as considered and specific. The palette is calm: warm sand, ivory and soft shadow tones that work with most furniture colours and materials. From a distance it reads as a series of architectural recesses; step closer and the texture, shadow and subtle colour variations become visible, enhancing the illusion of carved plaster.
Production & Installation
Printed in the European Union on a premium non-woven substrate using water-based, low-odour inks. The surface is washable and suitable for both residential and commercial environments. Panels are printed and numbered to support accurate placement of each arch and opening during installation. Panel width is 76 cm. A sample is strongly recommended — the trompe-l’œil effect depends significantly on the scale of the arches relative to the height of the room, and this is best assessed in situ before ordering.
